The Method
The art of evolution.
01 / FUNDAMENTALS FIRST
We build from a small set of positions that actually matter, drilled until they are second nature. Depth before breadth. You will revisit the basics at every belt, and find something new in them each time.
02 / PRESSURE WITH CARE
Live training is where Jiu Jitsu becomes real, but it is introduced gradually and supervised closely. You learn to solve problems under resistance without ego, and to tap early and often.
03 / EARNED, NOT GIVEN
Rank here reflects genuine understanding, mat time, and attitude. We do not accelerate promotions to keep people happy, and we do not withhold them once they are deserved.
04 / CONSISTENT EVOLUTION
Progress is the compounding interest of showing up. There are no leaps, only steady refinement. The student who trains twice a week for years goes further than the one who sprints and stops.

Adults · 16+
The adult belt journey.
From your first day to black belt is five belts, 16 stripes, and most of a lifetime. Beyond black lie the coral and red belts: the IBJJF mastery ranks, reached only after decades. Every figure below is a genuine minimum, a floor and never a timetable.
White Belt
Survival and escapes first. You learn to stay calm, protect yourself, and breathe under pressure. Everyone begins here, and there is no shortcut through it.
Blue Belt
The belt that filters. Your offence finally takes shape and the game opens up. Most of the journey happens at blue, and most of those who stop, stop here.
Purple Belt
Refinement. Your Jiu Jitsu starts to feel like your own. You learn why techniques work, not just how, and you begin teaching without noticing.
Brown Belt
Polish. Fewer new moves, sharper detail. Your timing quietens and your pressure becomes patient. The black belt comes into view.
Black Belt
Mastery begins, it does not end. The black belt is the start of a deeper conversation with the art, awarded entirely at the instructors' discretion.
Red & Black Belt
The first coral belt, the seventh degree. Reached only after thirty-one years as a black belt: a lifetime given to the art. Very few ever wear it.
Red & White Belt
The second coral belt, the eighth degree. A rank measured in decades of unbroken contribution to Jiu Jitsu.
Red Belt
The red belt, ninth and tenth degree, the summit of the art. The tenth was given only to its founders: Carlos, Oswaldo, George, Gastão and Hélio Gracie.
Stripe counts reset at each promotion: the classes shown are earned fresh at every belt. Time and class minimums follow the IBJJF graduation system. Meeting them makes you eligible, not entitled, the call always rests with your instructor.
Kids · 3–15
The junior belt journey.
Children follow the IBJJF junior system: a longer ladder of colours and degrees designed to reward consistency and keep young students motivated. Each degree is earned through attendance, so progress is something they can see and feel along the way.

At 16, juniors move onto the adult ladder, with their experience carried forward at the instructors' discretion. As with adults, degrees and belts are earned, never bought or rushed.
A belt at Artevō is a record of who you have become, not a receipt for time served. That is why it is worth earning.Book a trial class →
